What Is a MicroSMP Adapter?

A MicroSMP adapter may enable any microSMP connector to be adapted without degrading signal quality to a connector of the same standard (e.g., microSMP to microSMP) or any other standard, e.g., SMPM to 2.92mm or SMA. Such adapters are sometimes used in interconnectivity board-to-board, board-to-cable, or device-to-test instrument applications.

MicroSMP adapters can snap on and off and provide a small footprint, making them suitable to use in a test setup that requires repeated connections without wearing out within a few usages and causing large losses with a signal.

Understanding the WSMP Adapter

Even smaller than MicroSMP, the WSMP (Wafer SMP) connector system was designed for ultra-high-frequency, high-density applications—operating comfortably into the 100+ GHz range. WSMP connectors are often used in advanced radar, space, and RF backplane systems where tight mechanical tolerances and stable electrical performance are non-negotiable.

A WSMP adapter is typically used to interface between a WSMP connection and a more common connector type, or to extend or reroute existing high-speed connections. Due to their tiny size and precision requirements, WSMP adapters are precision-machined and carefully tested for reflection (VSWR), insertion loss, and long-term mechanical durability.
